Voted "Best Dance Club” or “Best Club Theme Night" in San Francisco for five years running. Over the past few years, the mashup phenomenon has spread around the globe like a virus. In 2003, San Francisco DJ duo A PLUS D created BOOTIE, the first club night in the U.S. devoted solely to this new brand of culture-jamming, the burgeoning musical art form known as the bootleg "mashup." Now, over 8 years later, Bootie has several regular parties on four continents, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle, Boston, Berlin, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, London and more and has done various one-off events from Bejing to Bankok Keeping your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations, Bootie celebrates -- and satirizes -- many different forms of music. Mixing and matching every conceivable musical genre and era into one big party where everyone feels welcome, it’s a place where all sounds, cultures, and styles unite on the dance floor. Bootie provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation, and free Bootie mashup CDs are given away like candy. The name "Bootie" is actually a triple entendre: the shortened nickname for "bootleg," a sly reference to the pirated nature of illegal mashups (the free Bootie CDs can be considered pirate booty!), and of course, what ones shakes while at the party! For the uninitiated few, the bootleg mashup genre is pretty much what it sounds like: two seemingly disparate songs “mashed-up” into one singular creation, championing fair use. What this usually means is that the vocal track of one song gets mixed into the instrumentation of another, usually of a completely different genre and/or era. Imagine Queen rocking out with Daft Punk, R. Kelly singing with Major Lazer, Estelle fronting the Ting Tings, Snoop dueting with Cher, David Bowie crooning with MGMT, or Michael Jackson singing with Nirvana. You get the idea! A PLUS D will be DJing a mashup set that mines the best bastard pop collection on the planet, combined with the experience of spinning all-mashup sets weekly for the past eight years, all over the world ... and then even throws in a live element, as Adrian takes the mic to sing a few mashups in the mix as well.
