Look at Society July 20th!, 4-10p
Look at Society Show

Three local comedy troupes, Murphy, Look Cookie, and Midnight Society have been accepted to the Del Close Marathon comedy festival in New York City. That’s right, NEW YORK CITY. But to get to this prestigious event, they have to earn some scratch. That’s why they’re throwing a good old-fashioned rent party like your grandfather used to. The all day throw-down will feature Nasty Clan , Alexander’s Dark Band , the Pelicks , and The Sexy Finger Champs reunion.

Of the Sexy Finger Champs, the Austin Chronicle wrote, “The Champs pack all the piss and vinegar of the Olympia rock goddesses, but don't take themselves nearly as seriously; somehow, it's hard to imagine Janet Weiss & company ever writing songs about doo-doo, tumors, baby monitors, or aspiring to be a teenage slut.” As if reuniting some Austin punk icons weren’t enough, there will also be a tater tot eating competition!

See Below for full descriptions.

The Del Close Marathon is New York City’s premier comedy festival. Del Close was the driving force behind improvisational comedy in Chicago for over 30 years influencing Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Mike Myers, John Belushi, Chris Farley and the Upright Citizens Brigade to name a few. After Del's passing in 1999, the UCB started the Del Close Marathon to celebrate their mentor and keep alive his name and teachings for future generations. The Austin troupes will be performing along side many of the hottest young comedy talent in the country, including the Daily Show correspondents and 30 Rock’s Jack McBrayer.

The ColdTowne Theater is Austin's main stage for alternative comedy with shows Thursday through Saturday featuring the smartest, brightest, and hardest-working comedians in Central Texas. They also run a conservatory offering education in improv and sketch comedy. They can be found online at coldtownetheater.com.

The United States Art Authority is Austin’s newest venue for music, art and culture. Located right next to Spider House in the old Plasma Center, the Art Authority features local and national touring acts and art shows. The Art Authority is now open for HAPPY HOUR every day, starting at 4p – 8p! The Art Authority is located right behind Spider House at 2906 Fruth Street in Austin, Texas and can be found online at unitedstatesartauthority.com.

BAND DESCRIPTIONS
Sexy Finger Champs
Of the Sexy Finger Champs, the Austin Chronicle wrote, “The Champs pack all the piss and vinegar of the Olympia rock goddesses, but don't take themselves nearly as seriously; somehow, it's hard to imagine Janet Weiss & company ever writing songs about doo-doo, tumors, baby monitors, or aspiring to be a teenage slut.”  Homegrown Austin rock ‘n’ roll and punk.

Alexander’s Dark Band
Alexander's dark band is an optical phenomenon associated with rainbows which was named after Alexander of Aphrodisias who first described it. It occurs due to the deviation angles of the primary and secondary rainbows. Both bows exist due to an optical effect called the angle of minimum deviation. Light which is deviated at smaller angles than this can never reach the observer. Alexander's Dark Band, however, is from Austin, TX and includes Annalise Ohse on violin and vocals, Brian Beadle on drums, Callie Sparrow on flute and vocals, Jake Buchert on bass, Jeff Luna on guitar and vocals, and Peanut on viola and vocals. www.myspace.com/alexandersdarkband

Pelicks
Relative newcomers to the Austin scene, the Pelicks blend classic R&B, soul and garage with an indie punk sensibility. Their music can be found online at  http://www.myspace.com/thepelicks.

Nasty Clan
Austin’s the Nasty Clan has joined the legions of rock proprietors before them in loosening their life commitments in favor of isolated music making. The whole band moved to Wimberley, TX to inhabit a small cabin where they worked together, ate together, slowly went crazy together and produced something incendiary. Kind of like the Unabomber... The Nasty Clan is a confident conspiracy of violent tunes and careful lyrics inspired by true events of human compassion and regret. Its musical electric army robots will capture your soul and you will say “can I have my soul back?” and it will shake its head slowly from right to left signifying that under no circumstances will your soul be returned to you today. Fast, fun, tick tock rock. The Nasty Clan. There are no groupies yet but they’ll come soon… like maggots to a corpse. http://do512.com/band/the-nasty-clan
